The Seventieth Annual General Meeting of the Co-op is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 1 p.m. in the basement of the Co-op building at 2655 Main Street. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the only event at the AGM will be the actual meeting. There will be no bingo/prizes, lunch, Parkour, or door prizes. Zoom will not be used for the meeting. Please do not come to the meeting if you have any symptoms of illness. Cooperatives in BC are required to hold their annual general meetings within 4 months of yearend. We requested an extension to this time limit, and an extension was granted so that the AGM must now be held by September 24, 2020. See News at left near the bottom, for the AGM Agenda, the Directors' Report, and the revised AGM Notice. See the Financial Statements page at left for the full audited financial statements for 2019. The Co-op is a charitable organization but is not a registered charity or a non-profit. It is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. It owns the properties at 2655 Main Street, 185 East 11th Avenue, and the 11th Avenue parking lot. The income of the Co-op is earned by leasing these properties.
The Co-op uses its income to maintain the properties and to support organizations in the area such as Mount Pleasant Branch 177 Royal Canadian Legion, Saint Patrick School, Sir Charles Tupper School, many other schools, Seaforth Highlanders Cadets, and many other charitable organizations. See the annual reports of donations made, under Donations at the left side of this page.
What is a Cooperative?
A Cooperative is much like an ordinary corporation, except:
Objects of the Co-op The objects of the Co-op, as per its Memorandum of Association (which can be seen in Corporate Documents at left) include:
Shareholders We have lost contact with many of our shareholders, because they have moved without updating their contact information, or they have passed away and their heirs were unaware of their share in the Co-op.
If you think you are a shareholder, or perhaps one of your parents is a shareholder, please contact us.
If you know you are a shareholder, and would like to receive your information from us by e-mail instead of by postal mail, please send us an e-mail to let us know. It is important that we have full contact information for shareholders and their beneficiaries. If you think your beneficiary information is not up to date, please download the beneficiary form from our Forms page (link below), complete and sign the form, and send it to us by e-mail, fax or postal mail. If your address or other contact information has changed, please go to the Forms page (link below), and download and complete the Change of Address form. Contact Information
The Co-op does not have regular office hours, as this does not seem to be necessary. Our phone has voice mail which is sent to us by email, and we can arrange for someone to be in the office if you need to meet with us. Documents - Directors only |
